The North Light HID Copy Light system has been designed for the digital scanning industry. Its ease of use coupled with its large power output and low heat are welcomed to the Art Reproduction business.

Each light is packed with 900 watts of ceramic discharge lamps and requires a typical 15 ampere 120 volt outlet. The lights are double fan cooled, one chamber for the hot (lamp) side and one fan for the electronic side.

A diffusion screen spreads the light evenly onto the copy board while protecting the art from heat. The screen can be replaced with white Plexiglas if the light is to be used for three dimensional art work like vases and other objects for rollouts.

Polarizing material can be slipped into the filter slot provided.

Mounting the Copy Light is simply done by mounting it onto a "C" Stand or a Junior Stand with the 5/8 inch TVMP adapter provided with the light. Sand bags over the leg of the "C" Stand is highly recomended. See photo. We recomend the Matthews Junior stand over the regular "C" stand. It is more stable and can be adapted to have the light be horizontal.

Our new HID copy light stand offers you a three wheel rolling stand and a seven foot tall column. The light can be positioned low or high on the column and then be tilted up or down. The light can also be mounted in a horizontal position and be tilted up or down.

With the three wheel design, the stand can be placed very close to the wall and at a 45 degree angle so that floor space is saved in smaller shooting areas.

"I 'm always glad to have a chance to put in a word for North Light, Better Light, and Zig-Align, all products I can wholeheartedly endorse. I got a couple of off-forum responses asking for more information about the lights, so maybe you'll be hearing from them".

"Apart from HMIs and big tungstens, both of which present conservation
issues (high UV and heat respectively), the only lights I've found to
put out enough to make cross-polarization agreeable are North Light's
new 900 Watt HID copy lights. They're worth a look if cross-polarizing
flat art is your game, or even if it's not. Right now they seem to be
the most bang for your buck in terms of cost per lumen for cool,
efficient, full spectrum illumination. Today I used just one of them
with a few reflectors and a 150 Watt Desisti broadlight for fill to
shoot a small tabletop piece at f32; line time 1/25th, ISO around 649."

"The lights are great. Don't know how i got along without them
."

Ben Blackwell -  UC Berkeley Museum

Aside from shooting fine art paintings and works on paper Ben uses the lights on three dimentional art works and studio tabletop shots.

The HID copy light are not just for fine art copy. Using them with a white plexiglas filter creates a beautiful light for product/advertising photography. The light is just lucious and you can add a fresnel or SunSpot to kick it up a notch.
