Shooting Digital Photography?

Wondering why you are not getting that same look as with film?

Maybe it is your lighting.

Are your trying to push a 1,000 watt tungsten light or an HMI in a raw reflector into a scene and it is just too hot? Is it too contrasty or you just can't get enough f-stop? Then maybe it's your lighting.

North Light Products has designed a group of digital studio lights that solve these problems, we address your needs, and just make life easier.

DAYLIGHT FLUORESCENT LIGHTING

For those seeking the cool workings of daylight fluorescent we introduce a studio line of three banks. The sizes are 1' x 2' with 220 watts, 2' x 3' with 880 watts, and a 4' x 4' with a whopping 2,200 watts. All the systems are flicker free and use lamps with Kelvin ratings of 3,000K, 3,500K, or 5,000K. When shooting textiles and non-reflective items, our fluorescent soft light banks can be used without diffusion. When you want a beautifully smooth highlight on a dark bottle of Merlot or the transition of white to black in the highlights of a pearl necklace simply slide in one of our diffusion filters. Power consumption is minimal with fluorescent lighting. Our 1x2 220 watt operates on just 2.2 amperes.

For scanning digital backs like Better Light or Dicomed and PhaseOne the lamps are especially suitable because of the lamps color spectrum.

STAGING LIGHTS IN THE REAL WORLD

Tungsten heads with enough wattage to shoot digitally, and the current market fluorescent studio reflectors are, for the most part, just too darn heavy to hang out on the end of a typical boom arm. Not only do they appear as if they are going to topple over, but just try lifting one up a few feet for a lighting adjustment. It soon becomes evident that the creative juices are not flowing and your profession has just changed from photographer to rigger or gaffer. At North Light we believe that the nuances of light skimming across the textures of your subject should be an intuitive process instead of a laborious one.

The North Light 1x2 Fluorescent Soft light 220 Watt

1x2 Daylight Fluorescent

Our 1x2 Fluorescent (11" x 23") is a beautiful small light source for smaller tabletop sets. The light can be pushed in close to the shot for outstanding saturation without overfilling the shadows. When pulled back and used in pairs the reflectors are perfect for copy camera operations. They are narrow enough to keep the light even on the art work and not blow back into the camera lens. This reflector is very bright and operates on a surprising 2.2 amperes of power.

For companies using digital capture cameras like Kodak, Canon, Olympus, Fuji, Sony, Nikon, Polaroid, Agfa, Epson, Minolta, and Casio the 1x2 North Light offers the perfect solution for small table top work or portraits of employees for web page publication. The head can be purchased separately and mounted onto a conventional tripod stand with the use of our Matthews adapter.

Our North Light 1x2 includes:

  • Plexiglas® diffuser
  • Rosco® Tough Rolux® diffuser
  • Yoke and Gimbal
  • 55 watt 5,000 Kelvin lamps. Total Lumens 19,200
  • Cooling Fan
  • Power Cord

The North Light 2x3 Fluorescent Soft light 880 Watt

2x3 Daylight Fluorescent

The North Light 2x3 Daylight Fluorescent
(23" x 38 1/2") is a marvelous all - around studio light, a workhorse. While still small enough to slip into tight spaces it has good power when backed off for larger shots. 880 watts in this size box is currently the brightest light on the market.

This light contains 4 light modules of 220 watts each. They are linked to allow the individual modules to be turned on and off for purposes of intensity and gradation. With all of the modules turned on the unit draws only 10.4 amperes of power.

Our North Light 2x3 includes:

  • Plexiglas® diffuser
  • Rosco® Tough Rolux® diffuser
  • Yoke and Gimbal
  • 55 watt 5,000 Kelvin lamps. Total Lumens 76,800
  • Cooling Fans
  • Power Cords

TUNGSTEN LIGHTING

If you are working with a tungsten base studio, we have designed system reflectors from twelve inches square with 1,000 watts of power to four feet square with 6,000 watts of continuous light. Our lights run cool. Our reflectors use a Plexiglas® diffuser that provides a gorgeous, smooth, liquid light look, fully saturated with a right on color balance. The reflectors are fan cooled to move hot air away from the subject. They are more comfortable to work under, furthermore they preserve your props and products on the set.

REFLECTORS FOR HMI

Three of our reflectors, the 12x12, the 42 Round and the 4x4 Parabola will work with HMI from Profoto AB in Sweden. With the daylight balance and high efficiency of HMI they are a perfect match for daylight based shooters. Our 4x4 Parabola will power up to two 1.2k HMI heads through our Plug/Switch and fan system.
